The First Three Sisters Review/Production Workshop

The first review for Three Sisters has been released from the Brown Daily Herald and it's a good one!
Mr. Ritchie seems to have done a fanatastic job directing these young actors.

Quotes from the article regarding Ms. Emma Watson and cast:

"Director Morgan Ritchie ’10.5 said he is attempting to do the “craziest” thing that Brown’s acting scene has witnessed in a long time. He’s putting on a naturalistic play — Anton Chekhov’s “Three Sisters,” which opened Thursday night at Production Workshop.

Tremendous acting, combined with a simple but charming set and haunting music, creates an atmosphere that transports the viewer to 1900 Russia....."

"From the opening scene to the closing curtain, “Three Sisters” guarantees audiences a sincere and poignant performance from each cast member.
The three sisters — Olga, Masha and Irina, played by Caroline Straty ’10, Lily Garrison ’10 and Emma Watson ’13, respectively — draw audiences in during the opening scene and never let them go.

Straty’s portrayal of Olga, the eldest sister, brings together the perfect combination of strength and warmth as she tries to guide her younger siblings through the trials of life and love. Garrison’s Masha is the one audiences love to hate, as lounging about while her town is on fire and having a clandestine affair with the new military officer contribute more to the hate than the love. But wait until her husband appears; her decisions will be more understandable then. And Watson’s young and naive Irina appears both powerful and helpless. She is determined to return to Moscow, to work for her living, to be happy. But no matter what she does, she is left dissatisfied.

The three may appear static at first, but their complexity and contradictions keep audience members on the edges of their seats. The characters are full of shades of gray, and it is these shadows that make “Three Sisters” truly come to life as the audience discovers the characters’ desires, relationships and motivations."

A full congrats goes out to the whole cast and crew! They accomplished so much in so little time!

Three Sisters play/ Emma Watson update

According to the PW website, ticket reserves are sold out. Tickets are still available to Brown ID holders before each play. The Boston Herald published a small article saying the play starts tonight (Thursday.) PW is stating that the play begins Friday so there is a small discrepancy. Hopefully the local media will be providing coverage and some photos from the play.

An interesting note that hasn't made the national media is the name of the director, Morgan Ritchie. For those who don't know Mr. Ritchie is Richard Burton's grandson and his mother is actress Kate Burton. So there you are! We are hear to inform!

Emma Watson's/ Three Sister news

The Providence media, Projo, is getting in on the action concerning Emma's involvement with the play, Three Sisters. They even contacted the university and when that didn't work they went to the theater itself where practice was being held. Good luck to Emma and everybody involved in the play.  BTW, the play is not open to the public anymore according to the PW website. It's only open to Brown ID holders: Students, Faculty, and Staff.

Projo:

PROVIDENCE -- "Harry Potter" actress and Brown University freshman Emma Watson is scheduled to take to a campus stage this weekend in a student-directed production of Anton Chehkov's "Three Sisters."

Or so say several Web sites. The university isn't talking. Much.

Asked about the rumors on Tuesday, Brown spokeswoman Sarah Kidwell said she was actually on her way to a meeting "to find out more about this,'' and promised to call a reporter back afterwards. She didn't.

On Wednesday, Kidwell would say only that she would be unable to help the reporter with the story.

Meanwhile, when another reporter visited the site of the rehearsal Tuesday night he was quickly ushered away by one of the student leaders. The student said he was aware of the Internet reports of Watson's involvement in the play but would not "confirm or deny" those reports.

Any comment, he said, would have to come from Brown University's public affairs office, aka, Sarah Kidwell.

The play is being produced by the school's Production Workshop, a non-profit student theater founded in 1960. The cast will perform shows Friday through Monday.

Unlike other workshop productions, this one is limited to Brown students, faculty and staff with school IDs. And tickets, which usually are available to the free shows to everyone at noon a day or two before a show, become available at midnight Wednesday.

Photos of Emma at Brown/Three Sisters news

Gossip Girls has photos of Emma walking to class.

Huffington Post started the ball rolling by writing an article about Emma getting the role in Three Sisters. Other sites like Perez, Just Jared have followed suit.

Perez really got people riled up.

US News

Huffington got the info from the facebook event of the Three Sisters play which had Emma's name listed. The event page has since been taken down. I wouldn't be surprised to see the play be limited to Brown students, family, etc. With all this press how could it be open to the public for much longer?
