Music Monday: Johnny Cash, A Boy Named Sue

Mr. Johnny Cash, The Man in Black, is one of the most influential musicians ever... period.  He's also the only person besides Hank Williams to have been inducted into the Songwriters, Country Music, and Rock And Roll Halls of Fame.  The song "A Boy Named Sue" was written by Shel Silverstein who also wrote the immensely popular children's books "A light in The Attic" and "Where The Sidewalk Ends".   The song hit #2 on the Billboard charts and relaxed there for several weeks.  Cash has so many hit songs there will undoubtedly be several more Music Mondays dedicated to the baritone baron.

The Dude Abides

The best fucking movie of all time, The Big Lebowski!!!  A 117 minute long orgasm of cinematic bliss.  Then again any movie that utilizes the word "Fuck" a whopping 260 times is destined for greatness.  For you math nerds that averages to about 2.22 "Fucks" per minute... Not too shabby.  It's Friday and I thought I would end the week with something special (and I didn't feel like writing that much).  Get your ass to a bowling alley and order about 10 White Russians from the bartender.   Or sit at home, put the dvd in and press play (I assume you already own this splendid film).  Then make up a huge batch of White Russians and see if you can last taking a sip every time they say "dude" or 'fuck".  My money says you end up vomiting White Russians 30 minutes into the movie.

Shut the fuck up Donny!!!  The rug really tied the room together. I can get you a fuckin' toe!  They're going to kill that poor woman.  Nice marmot.  The beaver picture.  You mean coitus?  Over the line!!! No body fucks with da Jesus! Eight year olds dude.

Emma Watson in new movie "My Week with Marilyn"

The Daily Mail is reporting today that Emma is in final negotiations for the film "My Week with Marilyn." (IMDB.) Production Companies for the film are Trademark Films and The Weinstein Company. Simon Curtis is directing. If true, Emma will be joining a star studded cast that includes Michelle Williams, Eddie Redmayne, Kenneth Branagh, and Judi Dench.  It's a small role that shouldn't interfere with her college schedule since filming is scheduled to begin in October.

My School Is Better Than Your School.

I'm all for learning, because everyone knows knowledge is power!!! Unfortunately school is boring, really fucking boring!  Mainly because the buildings and structures of our institutionalized learning facilities are horrid, putrid, maladies, of architectural excrement.  I'm speaking mainly about our nation's public school system, which seems to be meticulously designed to extract every essence of creativity from our youth's brains and replace them with Ritalin soaked drones whose only goal is to conform to predestined cookie cutter curriculum.

Whew!  Happy to get that off my chest.  I don't know much regarding the state of our country's private schools, however I do know that private aka for profit schools are businesses, businesses that make money.  I also know that money creates opportunities and can conjure major benefits in several instances.  Since we are talking about schools and the buildings that house our youth, get a whiff of this fresh out of the oven Funfetti of a private school in Carlsbad, CA.  Pacific Ridge, a $7.5 million college prep school is not only alluring to the eye but also to the environment.  Currently the school is up for LEED Gold certification (You Eco-nerds know what I'm talking about, if you don't then hit the link and expand your knowledge).  Gander at the pics and just imagine how green the drought resistant grass is on the other side.

Poppin' Bottles Like A Champ

Back in the day pop artist Andy Warhol was a regular at Studio 54 in New York.  Along with poppin disco biscuits and packin his beak with booger sugar Warhol was notorious for throwing down Dom Perignon.  So it's no surprise that the chic people at Dom P would colab with the Andy Warhol Foundation to design an extraordinary limited-edition bottle.  The Warholian collection, available Oct. 15th only in select wine shops consists of three bottles each with its own kitschy colored label.  Pop some tops but make sure you have the paper because at $150 a bottle I wouldn't waste a drop.  You can peep all the champagne your liver can handle at Dom P dot com.

MAKR My Deck

The uber low pro brand Makr that primarily specializes in ultra quality, limited edition handcrafted Bags, totes and wallets is making the fortuitous leap into skate hard-goods.  This custom handcrafted skate deck comes from the Makr studio in very limited numbers so good luck ever getting your grubby mitts on one.  Even though Makr says, "Please skate this, don't put this on your wall". I have a hard time fathoming that someone would slap trucks and grip on one of these bad boys and take it to the local mini ramp.  Notably because the deck is comprised of numbered leather risers, a hand stained bottom and takes several hours to construct.  In my opinion this deck is an integral addition for any home or office wall that wants to evade from the bland norm of drab art.

 Besos,

The Good Kind Of Danger

I'm here to get drunk!  The good kind of drunk, the kind of drunk that makes you better at everything especially talking up the ladies...  Meh, there probably isn't even enough booze in David Hasselhoff's liquor cabinet to make me better at that.  I do want you to get charmingly toasted.  So, the next time you're out on the town swooning broads, chasin' skirts or in every woman's case, being a full on CT to every dude that just wants to dance with you, put the fist pump on hold for just a minute and wrap your mitts around the tastiest of premium tequilas on the market, Peligroso.  Enjoy all three varieties: Silver, Reposado and Anejo.  I personally fancy my Peligroso out of the belly button of a 5'10, tan, blonde,  20 something, coed but I'm sure Peligroso tastes great out of a shot glass, on the rocks or even in an ice cold margarita.  I could decipher the ins and outs that make Peligroso Tequila so delish and unique but that's fucking boring...  Just take a peek at the bottle and imagine how good that will look in your bar, on your shelf, or tucked safely under your pillow.  Remember, a life without a little danger is like watching the same porn over and over.  At first it's great then it just gets boring and makes your wrist hurt.

Enjoy irresponsibly,
.Stinky Britches.

Emma Watson and Robert Pattinson in Dark Arc?/Glamour poll

A new movie rumor regarding Emma and Robert have surfaced today. According to Spunk-Ransom Emma and Robert have signed to be in the sexy comedy, Dark Arc. Additional info:
This film will be a remake of the 2004 indie film of the same name. Some info can be found at the IMDB site.
Summary of the plot:
Director Dan Zukovic weaves together the bizarre story of a love triangle between an artist, a graphic designer, and their inspiring muse. Viscount Laris is an eccentric, modern-day dandy obsessed by the power of art and visual imagery to shape the behavior and destiny of the individual. Juxta, a striking young cosmetician absorbed by masks, makeup, and false identities, soon falls under Viscount's idiosyncratic influence. Together they plot an elaborate game where they seek to influence the behavior of Ed Smith, a harmless and complacent graphic designer, through a meticulously planned series of staged visual events. Smith himself is unaware that these 'visual events' are manufactured and he soon becomes obsessed by Juxta, the mysterious woman he associates with these 'charged images'. As the game progresses, Viscount's experiments grow sinister and cruel. Juxta, having fallen for Smith, decides to turn the tables on Viscount. She enlists Smith's help and together they plot their grand revenge. Sensing the defection, Viscount is determined to raise the stakes and sets in motion a climactic confrontation wherein all three characters will come to together one final time, creating the penultimate 'charged image'. Written by Brendan Keown

UPDATE: Robert Pattinson's reps have denied this story. No word from Emma's reps as of yet, but either way we assume this rumor is debunked. Thanks to Gossip Cop.

War Paint

Reyes is at it again, following his ridonkulously successful show "Misspelled" in San Fran.  The graffiti artists' latest showing will take him to the notorious Know Gallery in LA where his newest strokes of genius, "War Paint" can be seen Sept. 25th-Oct. 16th.  In his recent works Reyes has tunneled into and thoroughly examined typography.  Spend some time walking the streets of San Fran and along with some of the most fucking amazing people watching your retinas will ever capture you're also sure to see at least one mural that Reyes has generously added to the urban city scape.  The city has been blessed with an entire Reyes-alphabet strewn lovingly throughout neighborhoods and alleyways.

Everyone knows September is the most boring of all the months and I know you have no plans until Thanksgiving so you should probably get your rotund paunchy buns to LA and check out the show.

Abstractly Yours,

Emma Watson and UNICEF ask for help on behalf of Pakistan children

Emma has posted a link to UNICEF on her twitter and facebook accounts so, if you want, you can make a donation to help the Pakistan children that have been affected by the flooding in their country.  Beware of the comment section, racism and hatred is alive and well (offensive comments can be flagged for removal.)

The Straits Time, Singapore has released an interview with Emma, post hair cut. She talks about Harry Potter, college and life in general.

"The face you have seen growing up on screen over the past 10 years framed by solid, streaky curls is suddenly devoid of – well, solid, streaky curls.

Emma Watson aka Hermione, geeky, perfect and Best Friend Forever of Harry Potter the infamous movie boy-wizard, has just shorn off her hair.

“I’ve been wanting to do this since I was 16,” she tells Life! in an interview at the swish Berkley Hotel in London.

“But I couldn’t because of the films. I couldn’t wear a wig. It wouldn’t look natural on someone my age.”

The homeschooled daughter of lawyers and current second-year student at Brown University, Rhode Island, had apparently walked into a New York salon alone, emerging from it two hours later minus 30cm of hair – and completely unrecognisable to the paparazzi.

“I was very calm,” she says.

Is this part of a whole new butch look?

“Butch?” she returns, bemused but slightly frowning.

“I think it’s rather gamine actually, rather feminine,” she says. “I’ve never felt sexier. I love it, this new hair.”
And this new me too, for indeed, life after Hermione has just began.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 is scheduled to open worldwide on November 17 and in Singapore a day after. Part 2 of the adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s best-selling phenomenon will follow in July next year.

With all filming wrapped up last month, Watson is glad to have finally put the enterprise safely behind her.

Several years ago, rumours had been flying about that she was extremely reluctant to take part in the final sequel of the lengthy franchise about an enchanted school and its wizarding students. After all, the 20-year-old has spent half her life working on the films since the first movie was released in 2001.

But with an alleged US$20 million (S$26.9 million) per movie at stake, the decision was surely made clear.

“Having been with the film all this way, it made sense to continue to the end,” she says now. “It’s finished exactly the way I imagined for Hermione – with Ron, the kids, her causes, everything.”

HP7, Watson says, echoing co-star Daniel Radcliffe, is a “road movie”.

“It was good to get out of Hogwarts, run off in search of Voldemort in Scotland and bits of very beautiful English countryside,” she says. “But a lot of it was actually shot in a tent in the studio.”

As for growing into a middle-aged mother of two in the final scene of the entire series, she is surprisingly nonplussed.

“Well, we wore quite a few prosthetics and the make-up is always very good,” she says. “But I hear a lot of it will be CGI, so I’ll only be able to see for myself the same time as everyone else. It’s interesting to see how they made the children look like us too.”

The conversation so far has been very politically correct and guarded. But that is the vibe you get from her – not quite fully grown-up but still very much the sensible prefect of her own life – new haircut or no.

A year ago, the straight-A student had prevented press coverage until the last moment of her admission to one of America’s top Ivy League institutions at Brown, wanting to keep a quiet, “normal” profile instead.

“I think normality is underrated,” she says. “It took two weeks for everyone to get used to the idea of having an actress in class. But after that, everyone realised that I was just Emma, normal Emma.”

Life these days, she adds, is the unlikely bliss of squeezing four in a dormitory, “mulling over pizza on a Friday night.”

She has just completed the first year of “shopping for courses” and has not yet chosen to focus on a subject at university. “but I’m tempted towards doing something in history,” she says.

Has real life across the pond changed her in any way?

“Oh no, I’m still very much a Brit – people expect me to come back with an American accent but I haven’t,” she says.

“But it’s interesting you’ve pointed out that I’ve experienced three very different kinds of education – homeschooling, Hogwarts and now Brown. It’s made me look at the UK, at Europe, in a new way. You see things from the outside in. I guess everything you go through in life is a learning process.”

Fifteen minutes of your time with the precocious Watson are almost up. You are tempted to ask her about her fledgling relationship with indie rocker George Craig for whom she has appeared in a recent music video.

But those steely eyes staring straight back at you as you perch on the cusp of a forbidden private question, notwithstanding a watchful film executive babysitting silently in the corner, convince you otherwise.

Instead, you ask her about life outside Potter. This has so far included a short TV appearance in BBC Drama Ballet Shoes, plus a voiceover stint in the animated movie, The Tale of Despereaux (2008).

“Well, my immediate plans are to get through three more years of this course,” she says. “But if something interesting comes along during the summer holidays, a bit of theatre, maybe a good film, I’m open to the idea.”

Indeed. For rumours had been circulating that Watson’s new pixie hairdo – a la Audrey Hepburn or, more recently, another rising British ingĂ©nue, Carey Mulligan – have less to do with a lifestyle makeover than an audition for a role in a Hollywood remake of the late Swedish crime writer Stieg Larsson’s hit series, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The role has allegedly gone to newcomer Rooney Mara, but what might Watson care with her many fish to fry?

She talks about that other great love in her life: Fashion. She has recently started modelling for Burberry and is actively involved in promoting People Tree, another eco-clothing brand.

“Fashion is art,” she once told reporters.

Today, she is waxing lyrical over a jumper. “This thing I’m wearing, it’s ever so incredible, the most comfortable thing on earth,” she says, tugging at a baggy, cotton-knit top around her neck, just about exposing – the horror – a bra strap.

“Feel it, feel it,” she urges, as you tentatively grab at a patch of white fuzz.

“This is what I wear all the time in the dorm,” she adds. “This is me – and I’m still me, you know? Someone asked me if my new haircut means I was coming out, like, out. Was I a lesbian?”

“That was so funny. I just laughed out loud.”

But has her life really changed on behalf of her hair?

“It’s funny how everyone thinks of you differently now, and of course, you do feel different. The wardrobe is slightly different too, now that you mention it,” she says.

“But hair is very changeable, you know. It can always grow back. And you can always cut it off again.”

Music Almost Monday: Surfin' Bird...?

Apparently everyones heard about the bird...  This weeks music choice is Surfin Bird, I hope you savor the often covered slice of raw Americana.  Originally performed by The Trashmen circa 1963, the song went on to hit #4 on the Billboard Top 100.   Surfin' Bird was actually a mashup of two R&B songs by the Rivingtons.  There aren't many lyrics to the song but it will get stuck in your head for all eternity, soooo good luck with that.

Emma and Alex Watson shopping

The Daily Mail ran an article today about a shopping trip Emma had at the end of August with her brother, Alex.  Thanks to an anonymous reader who sent some more photos in from her shopping trip with Alex. She looks so cute in these. Please comment if you know where these are from so we can give credit where credit is due.

Keepin' It Clean

Since the bill calling for a ban on plastic bags got the shit axe in California's senate recently, educated, rational people are looking toward other avenues to improve the quality of their lives and the lives of people around them. Americans generate 10.5 million tons of plastic waste every year!!! Out of that only 2% is actually recycled; the rest ends up in our landfills, streets and most unfortunately our oceans causing lots of bad shitty things to happen to the cute animals that live there.  (Insert sad face here).

One great way to mitigate the hugemongous amounts of plastic being thrown away and littered is to wipe out the initial use of these plastics. Seeing as most state and local governments apparently flunked econ 101 back in high school and can't even seem to balance a budget it's imbecilic of us to think they could accomplish the task of removing plastic bags from our stores. So aside from using reusable bags when we go to the store what the feck else can someone do to cultivate a cleaner, greener, less toxic life. Another not so fantabulous fact: Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every HOUR! Shit that's a lot of bottles, roughly 60 million a day. Hmmm, what can we do to lower that number...? How about following the same logic that we used for plastic bags, go reusable? Not a new idea at all but a fresh new company is upping the ante with a bamboo wrapped glass bottle that is easily cleaned in the dish washer and can even be throw in the microwave. You tree huggin hippies can even drop in your wheatgrass poopy juice. Bamboo Bottle Co. is still getting the ball rolling on the production side of their biz but they look ready to start crankin out BPA-free vessels any day now. If you can't wait for these eco-chic environment savers to hit the shelves head to their website and get your name on the list to be one of the first Bamboo Bottle beneficiaries.

I should be getting paid for this,

Music Monday: Cee Lo Green, Fuck You

Mr. Cee Lo Green is at it again.  This time he ventures out on his lonesome in a new solo album tentatively titled "Cee Le Green Is The Lady Killer" due out this fall.  Cee Lo has been verbally demolishing hip hop for a while but he really romanced music lovers when he paired up with Danger Mouse and formed Gnarls Barkely.  His solo project promises to satiate even the most parched listeners.  Anyone who is familiar with Cee Lo's unique play on hip hop knows he hits his beats like a pinata filled with southern sweets.  If the above jam is anything like the entire album we are all in for a treat.
Chop Chop Chop Chop,

.Stinky Britches.
